Change your course names in Schoology
Note that these directions are just for the 7-12 world. K-6 teachers will have slightly different nuances, look for posts from Dan Little and/or Krissy Hufnagel for K-6 classes….
Schoology granted us some new magic powers for our courses yesterday. We can now change the name of our courses and section numbers to something that make sense like bell names (without the change getting wiped out over night).
Some guidelines for you:
1) Your course name still needs to make sense, so use abbreviations for long course names if desired, but you probably don’t want to make any big changes to your course names. So, “Advanced Forensic Biochemical Engineering” might become “Adv. Forensic Biochem.” I made that course name up, by the way. That’s not a real class. Don’t tell kids to take it.
2) The section number is where you can put the name of the bell. Let’s use this naming convention so things look consistent for the kids and parents: Bell 1, Bell 2, Bell 3. That means, don’t use “Period 1” “1st Period” “1st Bell” etc. Keep it consistent for the sake of kids and parents.
To make your change, go to your course, pull down the arrow under your course profile picture and go to EDIT INFO.
If your course is linked, you’ll see an areas to adjust the bell name for each section. If not linked, you’ll only see one, of course. Change the name of your Bell where it says “Section Name”
Again, for the sake of the kids and parents, use “Bell 1” “Bell 2” etc.
If you are at the Middle School on a Day 1, Day 2 schedule use “Bell 1 Day 1” “Bell 1 Day 2” etc.
This WILL NOT get wiped out over night like we saw earlier in the year due to a change on Schoology’s end. It’s the small things that get me excited. I hope you enjoy!!
